Bubble, Bubble, Toil? No Trouble

By , Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 12:00 pm.

I walked into the One Young House kitchen and saw bubbles everywhere. The dishwasher was spewing soapy, bubbly water at a rapid pace.

“Cassie! Cassie!” I screamed.

Cassie saw the mess on the floor and then the look on my face. She burst out laughing. We both did. A few minutes later, the situation became even more comical when we discovered the root of the problem. (Google works wonders for that sort of dilemma.) If you type “dishwasher flooded with bubbles” into the search engine, it returns an answer: There is a high probability you used the wrong soap.

So who accidently loaded the dishwasher with dish soap instead of dishwashing detergent?

That would be me.

I honestly don’t even remember doing it, but the consequence meant more than an hour of painstakingly draining the soapy water into the sink using plastic cups as makeshift buckets. I was mortified beyond belief. I worried I had embarrassed myself in front of my roommates of a mere 13 days.

My worries were unfounded. I forgot the One Young House interns are a team.

Cassie helped me with the bubbles the entire time (she also live-tweeted the whole thing as only a millennial would), and we were in hysterics at a mistake I can only blame on lack of sleep. Cassie and I worked as a team for Operation Dishwasher just like we operate as a team at work with Anne and Shay.

One Young World (OYW) brings young people together as a team for a common cause. In a small way, that is exactly what the One Young House internship does. Our common cause is specifically a passion for PR and promoting One Young World, a love of Pittsburgh and an excitement to work for Euro RSCG Worldwide PR. The girls and I will spend the summer exploring the city together just like the OYW delegates will do during the summit in October. We take our various backgrounds and expertise (from politics to journalism) and use one another to help accomplish weekly goals.

Although I met these girls only two weeks ago, I feel as though I’ve known them for years. I could not be prouder to call them my teammates.
